Lynda Thompson

Research Associate

I’m a relentlessly curious qualitative researcher working in the construction, infrastructure and energy (fuel crisis) sectors. I’m a people person first and foremost and a professional questioner. I love to make connections using evidence and insights gained from customers, members and industry professionals. I use various research techniques to provide independent and actionable findings to decision-makers. Essentially the work I do informs organisations’ product development, membership liaison, customer communications, marketing and strategy.

I enjoy finding meaning in data, moderating, presenting and training. I’m a Certified Member of the Market Research Society and do software training too.

As well as working ‘client side’ for the National Building Specification for 19 years) and for xbim; helping them understand their customers and audiences, I’ve also worked for these clients (coming up with questions, conducting interviews, focus groups and visits, analysing the feedback and reporting back and making recommendations):

I’m the devil’s advocate, never afraid to ask the ‘silly’ questions, and really interested in people and understanding where they’re coming from. It’s liberating to acknowledge what I don’t know and then learn. In previous roles, I managed theatre and orchestra box offices and worked in software support and training for an international software company that provided ticketing systems for arts, entertainment and leisure venues. These roles, over 20 years ago, whilst seemingly unrelated to what I do now, were invaluable in teaching me the facilitating and listening skills as well as nurturing my interest in people.
