I am the former manager of one of the BBC’s most successful radio stations BBC Radio Merseyside where I started as a reporter in 1985 and ended up as its longest-serving manager until 2012 when I joined BBC Learning at Media City in Salford. I left the BBC in 2015 to set up Mickord.com – a media relations consultancy based in Liverpool specialising in media training, crisis management and PR throughout the UK.
My first love is radio and I do a monthly podcast with my co-host Mark Reeson – the Baltic Triangle podcast – featuring the people behind some of the area’s thriving businesses.
With my background in news, I’m fascinated by people and their stories and they don’t come much more impressive than Neal Maxwell’s tale of his life-changing trip to the Arctic and subsequent ‘epiphany’ to fighting plastic pollution.
Having spent 30 years in the media I am keen to use my skills and contacts to gain publicity for Changing Streams so that the impressive momentum we’ve built continues apace.
Having been told many times that the media is only interested in negative stories I relish the opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong and show that this is certainly not the case.
We need to inspire people to support our aims to build a better future for our children and grandchildren by eradicating plastic, starting with the construction industry ; we’re aiming high to make a real difference.
